My location : Tucson, AZ
Campaign milieu : Heretic (see below)
Campaign ruleset : TNE (sort of)
Campaign health : Currently Inactive
Group has met since: 1985
Frequency : every Saturday
Number of players : 5
Number of referees : 1
E-mail contact : scharlto.nospam@rtd.com (you know what to remove)
Description: This campaign shares time with a 2300AD campaign and a Star
Wars campaign; we shift games once per year generally. The campaign has
progressed from CT to MT and beyond for background, and we switched to
modified TNE rules in 1995. Currently at 1159; rebellion is pretty much
done, but Dulinor and a large fleet retreated into the area rimward of the
Trojan Reach, and remains a thorn in the Imperial side. The rebellion has
badly damaged the Imperium, and recovery is underway; many rogue navy units
remain as pirate threats.

I have TealDoc, and use it for books etc. However, what I was after was
finding out if the Memo Pad on the Palm III allows bigger memos than that
on the Palm Pilot Pro. Or if there is a third party editor. The idea is to
have something I can work on bigger texts, not having to truncate files
across a number of memos.

Sure. Look at any adventure movie (well, *almost* any). You'll find the
"strange bedfellows" theme popping up over and over, since it generates
such nice character interaction possibilities. Think Leia and Han in Star
Wars IV, or the pair in Romancing the Stone, or that last Sean Connery
movie...as I said, it's pretty universal. The trick is to set things up
so that a group of people who ordinarily wouldn't give each other the time
of day...or would actually start shooting at each other on sight...instead
are utterly reliant on one another to achieve some very important common
goal.

Making this work is a challenge for the GM, but not an overwhelming one.
Perhaps the rogues have information about the location of some artifact
(or species, or tribe, or whatever) that the scientist is passionately
interested in studying, while the rogues want to exploit some aspect of
it...but can't, without the scientist's help solving some puzzle.

The neat thing about this is that characters can actually change and grow.
Maybe the scientist gets a bit less ivory-towerish about how she handles
things, mixing in some practical considerations, while maybe one or two of
the rogues learn to appreciate knowledge for its own sake. And of course
the opportunities for Taming of the Shrew-style intellectual battle
leading to romance are very strong in a case like this.

Good luck!

You will be visiting the inbred readneck survivalist part of the
state. Be grateful if you find asphalt and electricity! :^)

Seriously, I don't know if there are any decent game stores in
Medford, but it's grown quite a bit in the last decade or so,
so there's a fair chance you'll find something.

There are a few mediocre stores in the Eugene/Sprinfield area,
and in the Corvallis/Albany area. However, to get the best in the
state, you have to visit Bridgetown Hobbies and Games in Portland.
That'd be about a 4-5 hour drive from Medford. :^(

A *fair* number? Like, scads of them! How many are there? A long time to
load indeed! Perhaps you could divide them up on a couple pages? Maybe
three? Even catagorize them, like GGs, Rockballs, Habitables, etc? My
browser got through most of the page (I believe) but then, either due to a
hiccup on mail retrieval, or some such thing, stopped loading. I may have
gotton them all, but there was a large blank stretch at the bottom. They are
wonderful planets though. I'll be back to check after thumbing and counting
the ones I got.

well, not medford/gpo area, but if you get to corvallis, there is a game
store which (at least 2 years ago) had a huge number of older traveller
items. After I checked out, I asked if he'd heard of the demise of GDW...
he hadn't! then he went and started RAISING GDW prices...

I been there, used to hang out there down on Ankeny and talked to Stephanie

know she used to be a lawyer? She gave all that up to open that church.
BTW, does she still do her show, "Where's the Art?"

You're both missing the important sites in that part of town. If you make
it into Portland you HAVE to go to Powells Books, both the Main Store, and
the Technical Bookstore are near there. Powells occasionally gets Traveller
stuff in, and I've seen GURPS:Traveller at the Powells near Washington Square
in Tigard.

The Sci-Fi section of the main store has more books than a lot of
Bookstores! They carry new and used books, so you can find really old stuff
you can't find elsewhere.

Hmm, maybe my connection is slow this time around, took closer to 1 1/2
mins, but well worth it. I just dropped them over on my computer and will be

For a real-life example, a Leading Hand (about an E-4 in US parlance) in
the Royal Navy earns about 16-18000 UKP - about the same as a Graduate
Engineer in the civilian sector. A typical person in a manual trade with
no higher or further education will be lucky to match the enlisted man.

Depends on the ship. Note that most people in the RN Submarine Service
volunteered for the extra pay a submariner earns over a skimmer.

Hmmm, not sure. The cat moved into their Technical bookstore, but I don't
remember the last time I saw it. Thing is they could have several in there
and you might not notice it. The main store is so big, and crowded anymore
any cats would probably be hiding during the day where customers can't go.

Cats and bookstores go good together, "Campaign Headquarters" in Norfolk, VA
had 3 the last time I was there.

It's in the Tradewar chapter, pp. 110-111.

Last time I was in Edmonton, a chain of book stores (Wee Book Inn) had a cat
in each of the 5 stores. There best store was on White Ave. (2 floors with
the second floor having some really old pulp sci-fi and the biggist cat I
have ever seen)

OK, I count eighty-six (86), did I get them all? Neptune-boring, he he, you
name your files like I do. Would you mind if I used 'em to spice up systems
in my Farcast Sector? I was planning on having sys-data with orbital
diagrams, trade codes, UWP's, etc., and these would some real nice texture,
if you'll pardon the pun.
